Launch of Pilot Environments for the I4.0 Transformation of the Wood-based Industry

DRWO4.0 combines innovation, tradition, and the digital future of the wood-based industry.

In the heart of the historic city of Pécs, Hungary, the DRWO4.0 project meeting took place on 4–5 February 2025, bringing together entrepreneurs and experts from the wood-based industry with the aim of advancing digitalization, sustainability, and cross-border cooperation.

Representing the project partner Cluster of Czech Furniture Manufacturers, Cooperative, the meeting was attended by Project Manager Monika Perďochová, together with the representative of the associated partner from Mendel University in Brno, doc. Ing. arch. Hynek Maňák, Ph.D., as well as representatives of cluster members – Ing. Vítězslav Gaja, Ph.D. (TZÚ) and Jaroslav Pehal (NADOP-VÝROBA NÁBYTKU, a.s.). For all participants, the event was an excellent opportunity for networking and sharing experiences.

The first day was dedicated to the presentation of the DRWO4.0 project, which focuses on digitalization and sustainability in the wood-based industry in the Danube region, with particular emphasis on three pilot environments: PE West (WIC), PE South (CEKOM), and PE East (KO-FA/PRO-WOOD). These pilot environments serve as platforms for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the development of innovative solutions.

Participants also visited a local organ-making workshop in Pécs, which successfully combines centuries-old tradition with modern technology, providing a concrete example of the practical application of innovative solutions in the wood industry.

The second day was dedicated to a project partners’ meeting, during which future activities and the development of the pilot areas were thoroughly discussed. Dynamic discussions and the exchange of experiences led to the definition of concrete steps to support a sustainable, digital, and competitive future for the wood-based industry.
